Faith Formation For Children & Adults

Opportunities for worship and religious education are an integral part of parish life at St. Matthew’s. 

Classes for Faith Formation/Religious Education are available to public school student in grades 1-10.  They are held every Wednesday night, 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. from September – April. 

1st Communion:  Children in 2nd grade and up may register to participate in preparation classes.   Families may schedule for their child to make their First Communion during weekend Masses following Easter Sunday.  First Communion classes begin on Tuesday, February 15 at 6:30 pm in the chapel.

1st Penance/Reconciliation:  Children in 4th grade and up may register to prepare for this sacrament.  Students will make their First Penance in a ceremony that takes place before the beginning of Lent.

Confirmation: Young people in 9th grade and up are welcome to register for Confirmation.  Students will meet as a group to prepare to join the Church as an adult from September – April, culminating in a Confirmation ceremony held at the Cathedral in May.  Confirmation is a 2 year program.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults & Children (RCIA): This is the process of formation and initiation for those who wish to enter full communion with the Catholic Church.  Those interested in learning more are invited to contact the pastor or deacon.

Children’s Liturgy

From October – May at the Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass, a special liturgy is available for children 4 – 6 yrs. old.  The children are invited to participate just before the First Reading and then rejoin their family after the homily is complete. During that time, the children sing songs, hear the gospel, and learn about Jesus.

Coffee & Donuts after Sunday Mass

Everyone is invited for refreshments served in the Social Hall after the Sunday 8:00  & 10:30 a.m. Masses.
