Dear Saint Matthew Community and Visitors:
A Catholic parish is expected to provide opportunities for growth in faith and
worship, as well as service to the wider community. The opportunities for worship
and religious education are an integral part of Catholic parish life.
On Sunday afternoon, September 14th, parents and young people who are
preparing for Confirmation this coming spring are expected to participate in
an orientation meeting at 4:00 PM in the church. Confirmation is normally
celebrated with 10th grade students. If you have a 10th grader or a young person
in your family who is older and has not yet been confirmed, THIS GATHERING
IS FOR YOU. The meeting will take one hour, and then at 5:00 I will celebrate
Sunday Mass with the confirmation students and their families in the chapel.
On Wednesday, September 17th at 7:00 PM there is a meeting in the church
for all parents who have children to be enrolled in religious education class
this year -- grades 1-10. The purpose of this meeting is to get young
people registered, explain the program to parents, give the schedule of classes
to parents and answer any questions parents might have about the religious
education of their child/children. If your child is not attending a Catholic
School, he/she is expected to participate in the weekly religious education
program.
On Wednesday, September 17th at 7:00 PM there is a meeting for all
parents who have children to be prepared for First Communion or First Reconciliation. First
Communion usually takes place at the second grade age and First Reconciliation
normally takes place at the 4th grade age. If you have a child who is older
and has not received First Communion or First Reconciliation, this meeting
is also for you. This meeting is for all parents with children to be prepared
for sacraments -- Catholic school parents and religious education parents.
First Communion will take place after Easter and First Reconciliation will
take place during Lent.
Finally, I am still seeking young people and adults who are willing
to be religious education teachers, classroom assistants or help me with the
program for First communion and First Reconciliation. If you like
young people, enjoy children, if you are willing to share your faith with young
people -- that is all I ask; the rest will be provided for you. Please call
me at the church office -- 651-224-9793.
Yours truly,

Stephen Adrian
Pastor
