Baptism
St. Matthew’s welcomes everyone, infants through adults, into the Catholic faith through the sacrament of Baptism.
The timeline of spiritual formation will depend on the age of the individual to be Baptized.
Baptism Process
Complete all the Registration Materials here. These forms will help us accurately record & plan for your child’s Baptism.
Step 1We will walk with you through your child’s journey to Baptism. Begin by Registering for Baptism Preparation Class(es).
Step 2Baptisms take place at regular weekend Masses on the second full weekend of the month.
Step 3Once you’ve finished your class and submitted your registration materials, we will schedule the date of the Baptism.
Step 4Baptism Preparation Class Timelines By Age
Infants – Age 6
A preparation meeting is required for parents and guardians with children aged six or younger. Godparents are encouraged to attend. Children are not required to attend.
Register for your preparation class at least three months ahead of the desired baptism date.
Baptism preparation meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month and registration is required, at least one week in advance.
You may submit Registration Materials to Angela Rakow or bring them to the preparation meeting.
Children Ages 7-13
A series of three baptism preparation meetings held during the fall and winter months are required. Parents/Guardians and their child must attend . Godparents are strongly encouraged to attend also.
Register for your Preparation Sessions at least 4 months ahead of the desired baptism date & before November 1 if you desire for your child to make their First Communion in the Spring.
For any child wishing to also receive their First Communion in the Spring, Faith Formation classes are required and Baptism must be completed before the beginning of Lent. Children who are preparing to be baptized are encouraged to register for weekly Faith Formation classes which meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm during the school year.
You may submit Registration Materials to Angela Rakow or bring them to the preparation meeting.
Ages 14 - Adult
For anyone who is age 14 and older, please contact the parish office at 651-224-9793 to inquire about Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and Children (OCIA/OCIC) the process for Adults receiving the Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism, First Communion & Confirmation.
